This Year's Virtual Forum

Fight for Our Future:
Finding Strength in Indigenous Public Health

Online: November 9-13

What is Our Nations Our Journeys?

Our Nations Our Journeys (ONOJ) is a forum for strategic conversation that brings together diverse perspectives to talk about the big picture and big questions.

At Our Nations, Our Journeys, we unite to support healthy Native communities through public health research, practice, and policy. Our virtual four-day forum is designed for tribal and urban Indian public health leaders, professionals, and students to share knowledge and promising practices. Our expert-led sessions will cover a range of topics from how we can improve public health data infrastructure in our communities to how we can aid the fight against the opioid epidemic.

The Forum’s goals are to explore strategies to bridge public health and health care by:

  • Building new, mutually beneficial opportunities to network and engage with others.
  • Creating a shared understanding and vision for American Indian and Alaska Native (population) health.
  • Discovering imperatives for change through dialogue and exchange.
  • Exploring solutions and opportunities for Indigenous health systems transformation.
  • Making recommendations that can facilitate change and inspire action.

ONOJ 2020: Fight for Our Future

This year’s theme, Fight for Our Future: Finding Strength in Indigenous Public Health, is a call to come together and work towards solutions for the public health crisis impacting our communities.

Our theme holds even more true now than it did when we first announced ONOJ earlier this year. We want this forum to be a space where we continue to navigate challenges that became even more apparent during COVID-19.

Our four streams will focus on solutions to these challenges and build our collective knowledge of what works in our communities.

The four thematic streams are:

  • Indigenous Pathways to Health
  • Data as Knowledge
  • Governance for Health
  • Performance and Innovation
