What is TA?

Technical Assistance (TA) refers to a wide range of supports that outside professionals can provide to program staff to support program implementation. This includes resources and ideas to help staff work through challenges, plan and implement programs, and create new tools for their community. TA is not limited to support, such as computer or IT issues.

Indigenous Evaluation for Public Health Programs & Services

We work with programs to strengthen their ability to comprehensively meet tribal public health needs, with an emphasis on utilizing Indigenous evaluation to assess effectiveness and community impact.

Examples include:

  • How to use the Seven Directions Indigenous Evaluation Toolkit to prioritize Indigenous knowledge and values in program planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Concrete tips for collecting data through Indigenous research methods and supporting deep community involvement in public health goals

Foundational Public Health Capabilities

We work with programs to strengthen existing systems by developing organizational policies and building community partnerships.

Examples include:

  • Public health accreditation navigation
  • Supporting health centers in writing questions for community needs or health assessments, including those tailored to specific populations (e.g., youth, LGBTQ2S+, veterans)
  • Coaching organizations to use community-based participatory approaches in research
  • Connecting teams to partners and resources for data modernization, informatics, and analysis goals

Data Modernization

We help teams build data analysis capacity and develop data sovereignty agreements to support sustainable program development.

Examples include:

  • Coaching in qualitative and quantitative analysis software
  • Training on implementing the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance
  • Translating Indigenous research methodologies into the digital world (e.g., data storytelling)

Workforce

Our team supports early-career public health professionals, including recent graduates and practicum/internship students. We work with teams to build a strong public health workforce through training and professional development.

Examples include:

  • Supporting the development of internship goals and curriculum
  • Creating internship pre/post-test surveys to assess knowledge gained
  • Facilitating an intergroup dialogue about how to support staff through the difficult nature of public health prevention
